Kelly Cutrone/ Top Ten List

October 4, 2010

Last week I was invited to a clients birthday get together to celebrate some age over the number 29. The e-mail stated this was a hard age to sallow and it reminded me of a list I read in Kelly Cutrone’s book, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside. If you haven’t heard of Kelly Cutrone you are missing out. Her book is a best seller and her show on Bravo ‘Kell on Earth’ is awesome. Now these weren’t words of deep philosophical meaning or abstract thoughts, that make you feel more confused then before you read them, but instead a list of “Why Everything Good Happens After Thirty,” and believe me, since I am 30 these things actually are true. Here is Kelly’s take:

See everyone thinks the best years are the twenties because you have youth on your side, which basically means, you think you’re hot. You’ve got the good skin, the metabolism, and party all night and still make it to the gym at 7 a.m.

In your twenties, you’re trying to figure everything out; who you are, where you came from and where you want your life to go. After thirty the answers to those daunting life questions start to manifest and you are closer to being the person you want to be. And as Cutrone so perfectly points out, you’ve probably already done everything embarrassing possible during your twenties, so really there is only one way to go… UP, UP and UP!

So enjoy Cutrone’s list (I promise you will) and for those readers who are still in there twenties, live it up because time fly’s when you are having fun.
1.) Salary Increases
2.) After having gone through a plethora of designers for clothing, It’s time to step it up a notch and change headlong into the land of the overpriced luxury accessories, where I hope you’ll encounter some of the same landmarks I did: Globe-trotter, Asprey, Louboutin, Vuitton, Bulgari, Hermes, Roger Vivier.
3.) A baby, if you want one.
4.) The desire and the emotional wherewithal to date three men at the same time without remorse. (If I didn’t have the greatest husband in the world, this would be me)
5.) Vacations outside the USA sans youth hostel.
6.) Self-Control. This is the time when we ride the lion; the lion does not ride us.
7.) Property ownership, or maybe just your own apartment.
8.) The ability to buy your own muscle car, if you want one.
9.) Decrease in overall paranoia and hysteria, which leads to… the best one of all
10.) Better sex. Definitely better sex.

If that makes you want to read her book, great it happens to be a quick and easy read. I will warn you if you are a straight male, this book will not be your flavor. This book is meant to empower women, which it does quit well.
